Building Oyster Nets

At The Last Place On Earth we take great pride in the preperation of all of our aquaculture gear.

Oyster nets are made to last for several years. They are made in black for maximum Ultra Violet Radiation resistance. It seems only natural to put the extra time and effort into constructing a holding structure for our oysters that will give them the most benifits.

We cut our bags different as you can see in the slide show. this is so they form square corners when folded so that no seed is likely to get caught in the ends of the bags.
We take extra time to crease each fold so that the bags can hold there shape. The nets are closed and stacked on end until we hang them on the lines and plant them.

We have decided on 30# test zip strips to use for net construction. The seed can be inserted into constructed bags without opening them, and the zips can be broken by hand to facilitate a less difficult harvest. It is our intention to harvest and replant without removing the nets from the lines. We expect to reuse each net for several years in place.
